Ho Ho No: Why Christmas is an overrated holiday

When I think about Christmas all that comes to mind is cold hours shoveling snow off your car, just to go to a mall with a bunch of stressed adults dragging their screaming snotty children away from screen displays.

LIFE PLANS 12/26/2022, 10:00am

Wanting to graduate early? Here are my reasons why I am.

Do not let the traditional structures of college trap you into a four-year plan. Graduating in three years or five years does not make you less of a student than students who took the traditional four-year path. At the end of the day, there is nothing on the degree you receive that says how many years it took. Put yourself in the driver’s seat of your future.

Midterm 10/27/2022, 10:00am

Go out and vote in the upcoming midterm

You may not feel all that powerful, coloring in a circle next to the name of your preferred candidate, while in the voting booth. But in that voting booth, you are powerful. You and all the millions of Americans voting alongside you are powerful.

Apathy 10/23/2022, 3:15pm

Calling Apathy to Action

It is time to take a stand against the evils of the world, to be informed about what is going on within our external factors. We must have the confidence and will to be a leader and push for the change we want to see.

Culture 10/16/2022, 10:00am

Society’s Silent Killer

As a society, we have put our literal well-being on a backburner and chosen to prioritize “the hustle.” We’re obsessed with “the grind” and “getting the bag.”

Opiods 10/11/2022, 10:00am

Powerlessness In Politics

I saw what opioid addiction could do. I saw the shaking, tremors and slurred speech. I saw my friends whose parents were laid off and couldn’t afford the Lunchables that many of us had in our lunchboxes. I saw the countless businesses that moved onto the mostly desolate main street – floundering and failing before the end of the year. I saw how hillbilly transplants and middle Americans felt left behind in political endeavors.

Red Zone 10/4/2022, 12:00pm

Aftermath of the Red Zone

If you are a survivor of sexual violence, you are not alone. You are loved and valued; please know the pain won’t last forever. You are so strong, and I’m proud of you for being here.

Teachers 9/27/2022, 12:50pm

Take Control of Your Education

We are a generation that questions everything put in front of us, yet we have failed to question our surroundings and just accept our fates. This is not to say students are lying about their experiences or blowing them out of proportion, but I’m simply trying to say that we as students must provide for ourselves — our education is in our hands.

SB 1 9/19/2022, 5:00pm

Letter to the Editor: The Effects of Roe's Fall

Indiana’s state legislature is 82 percent male, and they overwhelmingly voted in favor of removing ALL exceptions and against expanding access to sexual education, contraception, which prevents unplanned pregnancies and the abortions they purport to want to stop, did not listen to most Hoosiers.

Another Chance For Damage

The message of this tale is simple: people should not go to events that they do not agree with. And the fact of the matter is that people have been attending Sister Cindy’s sermons to protest her contested views; however, these protests may be the fuel that allows Sister Cindy to become more popular with each passing day.

The Prison of Perfectionism

Whether I was gravitating toward the approval of my parental figures or being the go-to-person for everyone when they were down or in need of assistance, I adopted a lifestyle of being a perfectionist — a lifestyle that consisted of being there for others as much as I wished someone was there for me.

Autism 8/28/2022, 9:00am

My autism is not a tragedy.

Society has used inappropriate language to describe autism; using demeaning and belittling language to then build up a narrative of someone “heroically” overcoming their disability. This is one of the reasons why I despise shows like “America’s Got Talent” so much for how they depict people with autism. We are just trying to do the same things that neurotypical people do; our path to doing it is just different.
