The race for second place in the Mid-American Conference standings just got a lot closer following this weekend’s three-game set between Ball State (25-15, 12-9 MAC) and Western Michigan (21-16, 12-6 MAC) that saw the Cardinals claim the series, 2-1.
Coming into Ball State softball’s final home series of the 2024 season, the Cardinals aimed to gain some ground on Akron who sat at the No. 6 spot in the Mid-American Conference. With the red and black at No. 7 in the conference, this was an important weekend.

Before sunrise, while most of Ball State University’s campus remains still and quiet, a few early risers start their day to fulfill other commitments: a full-time job, missing a class to care for a sick kid or simply being in a completely new environment. There are many paths students take, and varying experiences bring diverse challenges.
For the first time in four years, the Indiana Pacers are in the playoffs. It’ll be different from the 2020 bubble playoffs, since this time there will be fans in attendance.
It was late in the afternoon, but the sun beat relentlessly on James’ face as he walked along the brick sidewalk. He knew that college involved a lot of walking, but these August summers keep getting hotter and hotter. He wiped a hand across his brow, squinting up to see Shaffer Tower looming up ahead.
