The Ball State Daily News sports team has made the trip to Cleveland for the Mid-American Conference Basketball Tournament. The sports team consists of freshmen Logan Connor and Titus Slaughter, juniors Zach Carter, Elijah Poe, and Andrew Berger and senior Derran Cobb.
Logan and Elijah will cover Ball State’s women’s team games while Titus and Andrew take photos. Zach will provide columns, opinion pieces and other content throughout the week as Derran keeps the social media followers up to date on the happenings of the team and games.
Day one
Travel began at 9:30 a.m. where the crew departed from Scheumann Stadium. The first leg of the trip was full of sports talk — the guys call it “ball talk” — before arriving at the Neil Armstrong Air and Space Museum in Wapakoneta, Ohio for a quick pit-stop.
After that stop, the team continued their travel to Mansfield, Ohio, where they stopped for a quick lunch at Uncle John’s Place. Everyone ordered a cheeseburger of some sort, and one guy got an interesting reuben burger.
After departing Uncle John’s, the team made the final hour of the trip to Cleveland. They drove by “The Shawshank Redemption” filming site but could not go in as it was closed. The last hour of the trip was full of more “ball talk” and some nap time.
The team arrived in Cleveland, checked into their hotel, and walked over to dinner at Geraci’s Slice Shop. There were all meat slices, hot honey slices, and the slice of the day had pickle and ranch on it with bacon crumbles. The guys got back to their rooms around 8:15 p.m. and got last minute prep done for the Cardinals’ first game at 11 a.m. against Western Michigan.
