MUNCIE, Ind. – The Delta Eagles have officially put themselves on the map by making school history to win back-to-back-to-back sectional championships.
The win marks an impressive three-peat for the Eagles, and for head coach Mark Detweiler, it is a testament to the team’s energy they have together.
“We’ve had a good run really the last eight years that I’ve been here, but for this group to be able to get the first in school history, we’ve done it through just great teamwork, and they really play well together,” said Detweiler.
As the Eagles prepared for the championship game at the New Castle Fieldhouse, senior point guard Cooper Bratton reflected on the importance of leadership and staying focused during the high-stakes game.
“Obviously New Castle is the biggest gym in the world, so everybody was just a little bit nervous. I mean, it's a championship, as you should be, but just starting in the locker room, our coaches gave us some good words of advice, and just getting out, guys ready. Us seniors were ready, getting the underclassmen ready,” said Bratton.
While the sectional was a moment of pride for the team, Bratton is already focused on what’s next, the regional tournament.
“We’re just going to leave that in the past. Good achievement, but now focusing on regionals. Coaches are going to give us a good game plan for a strong Fort Wayne team,” he said.
As the Eagles approach the regional round, Detweiler remains confident that the team will continue to do what they do best. “There has never been a moment too big for them. They showed it last week. They play with a ton of poise, and I think that’s been their strength all year. Nothing’s rattled them,” Detweiler remarked. “I fully expect them to come out and be who we are and find a way to be there at the end.”
The Eagles will face Fort Wayne Blackhawk Christian in the 2025 IHSAA Regionals this Saturday.
