MUNCIE, Ind. — On Friday afternoon, a handful of students and staff had the opportunity to learn about the culture of Egypt inside the Rinker Center of Global Affairs.
The Rinker Center, located inside the L.A. Pittenger Center at Ball State, is a place to help students who want to extend their career or education beyond our borders and to other countries. Their mission is to connect Ball State to the rest of the world. One way to accomplish this is through organized events.
Graduate assistant for the Rinker Center of Global Affairs and graduate assistant of student success, Martina Schiavo, noted that the events offered to students are a great way to get students involved and connected.
“Whether with graduate students or transfer students, in a way, it is a way to create a sense of belonging,” Schiavo said. “It is a great way to build a community.”
Schiavo explained that each event is not just restricted to students; anyone and everyone can attend it.
“We can have several communities attend our events,” Schiavo said. “We have campus communities, faculty communities, many international students, and students within our community. We are open to everyone.”
Those attending the Global Affairs’ international hangout events can expect to experience different countries in a hands-on way. Expect to learn things from a particular country, such as their games, music, snacks and drinks.
“The event is much more activity-based,” Schiavo said. “It is a hangout, so students have a great chance to get to know each other. It is a great opportunity to learn.”
The next Global Affairs event is a cultural exchange for the African country, Ivory Coast, this Wednesday in the Student Center from noon to 1 p.m.
