In 1981, the Ball State Daily News Sports Section created a section in the print newspaper that reviewed weekly sports scores and updates from Ball State athletics. Before the semester break, the sports editors came together and decided to bring the weekly rendition back. But now, it will be a weekly online update.

Women’s basketball defeated Toledo 77-63 on National Television
Ball State women’s basketball remained undefeated and atop the Mid-American Conference (MAC) with a 14-point win over rival Toledo. The game was televised on CBS Sports Network on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. En route to the win, senior Lachelle Austin surpassed 1,000 career points and head coach Brady Sallee won his 150th career MAC regular season game. Senior Ally Becki continued to shine and proved why she was named to the Becky Hammon Mid-Major Player of the Year watch-list, with a 26-point performance.

Men’s basketball beats Central Michigan on the road 82-80
The win on the road in Mount Pleasant, Michigan, was not an easy one. The Cardinals outscored Central Michigan 49-39 in the second half en route to the win. Graduate student Jeremiah Hernandez hit free throws in the final seconds to propel the Cardinals. Redshirt senior Mickey Pearson Jr. scored 16 points, Hernandez had 15, junior Jermahri Hill had 14 and senior Payton Sparks also had 14.

No. 7 Men’s volleyball sweeps Lees McRae (25-11, 25-14, 25-12)
Freshman Ryan Louis led the way in the win with a .600 average with 12 kills and five blocks. Graduate student Rodney Wallace and freshman Ryan Bartz made an impact as some fresh faces for head coach Donan Cruz. Wallace had eight kills and Bartz had six. Bartz also had nine digs and five blocks.

No. 7 Men’s volleyball beats Maryville College (25-13, 25- 23, 25-16)
As a team, the Cardinals hit .513, their best on the season. Senior outside Tinaishe Ndavazocheva tied his season-high in kills with 14. Junior outside Patrick Rogers and senior opposite Rajé Alleyne contributed nine and eight kills respectively. The Cardinals are competing at a high level for yet another season. They currently sit at 5-3 with two matches until conference play begins.
Jan. 25
Women’s basketball beats Northern Illinois 81-62 on the road
Behind 20 points from senior Ally Becki and 17 from senior Lachelle Austin, the Cardinals cruised to their 10th straight win. Ball State is now 16-4 overall and 8-0 in MAC play. The Cardinals have been dominant on the MAC slate, and have not lost a game since their road test at Ohio State Dec. 10. Graduate student Maliyah Johnson had an 11-point showing off the bench for Sallee and his team.
Men’s basketball loses to Northern Illinois 76-66
The season of ups and downs continues for the Cardinals. They fell to 3-4 in MAC play after the loss to a Northern Illinois team that shot lights out from deep. Graduate student Ethan Brittain-Watts scored 16 points with four shots falling from deep. Juniors Jermahri Hill and Jaunse Gorosito both had 12 points in 32 and 35 minutes on the floor respectively. The Cardinals fall under the .500 mark on the season again, now sitting at 9-10.
Men’s tennis beats Illinois State 4-3 on the road
The Cardinals earned their first win on the season in a road battle in Bloomington, Ill. No. 2 doubles tandem Ian Brady and Drew Hayward clinched a point after picking up a 7-6 (9-7) tiebreak defeat over Illinois State's pair. In singles, Jacks Lancaster won on the No. 2 court in consecutive sets, 6-2, 6-1. The team will host their first home match against Dayton Feb. 1 at the Northwest YMCA Tennis Center.
