MUNCIE, Ind. – Delta Athletics has hired Jeremy Lochner to become the Eagles’ next head football coach. He is the blue and gold's fourth head coach in the last 31 years.
"Everybody that you talk to about him says that he has the ability to connect with student-athletes and the ability to develop them," Delta athletic director Tilmon Clark said. "He's been able to do it at the college level and the high school level, and I think that's important in our world today."
Lochner is from Upland and has had coaching experience at the collegiate level. He’s had roles at Taylor University (defensive backs and special teams, 2012-17, 2018-23), Anderson University (defensive coordinator, 2019-23) and Indiana Wesleyan (corners’ coach, 2023).
For the last two years, he’s been a teacher and assistant coach at Mississinewa High School. In that time, the Indians went 23-2 and ended Delta's season last fall in the semifinal round of the IHSAA's Sectional No. 28.
"I wanted to make sure I didn't take [this] lightly. He's going to be our fourth head coach in the past 31 years," Clark said. "That in itself shows that Delta High School football was very special and special to a lot of people. So I wanted to make sure that I did my due diligence and to see who would be the best fit to take over Delta football."
Lochner is from Upland, Indiana and attended Eastbrook High School. He will fill the position that was held by former Delta head football coach Chris Overholt for nine seasons.
