The Ball State Daily News will use this program to honor athletes who had an impressive week or a breakout performance. Candidates will be chosen and the community can cast their votes.
Candidates will be announced every Monday with the voting closing on the following Tuesday at 5 p.m. The winner will be announced at a later time.

The Ball State Daily News is partnered with the Muncie Sports Commission for this program. This will help determine nominees for the end of the year award show next spring. Here are the Delaware County Athlete of the Week nominees from Monday, Jan. 6 to Saturday, Jan. 11.

Yorktown junior girls’ basketball player Lilly Sylvester: In Yorktown’s 60-40 win over conference rival Shelbyville, Sylvester scored 19 points while shooting 55% from the field. She
Wes-Del junior boys’ basketball player Julian Carpenter: In the Warriors' 58-50 win over Tri-Central, Carpenter scored 19 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Delta senior boys’ swimmer Zach Baty: In the Hoosier Heritage Conference (HHC) meet, Baty won two events. He won the 200 IM with a time of 1:59.83 and the 500 free with a time of 4:56.13.
Daleville sophomore girls’ wrestler Kynlie Keffer: In the Alexandria-Monroe girls’ wrestling Regional, Keffer pinned her opponent in less than a minute to advance to the IHSAA girls’ state finals. She was the first girls’ wrestling regional champion in school history.
Cowan junior boys’ wrestler Jackson Bradley: In the Delaware County wrestling tournament, Bradley went undefeated in the 157-pound weight class en route to a county championship. Bradley won the match by technical fall and is undefeated on the season.
Wapahani girls’ basketball player Kimber Abshear: Abshear is averaging a double-double through the last couple of the Raiders’ contests. Abshear is averaging 14.2 points per game and 10.9 rebounds per game.
