Indiana Michigan Power says it is extending its Muncie transmission line project along Tillotson Avenue into summer 2025. This includes lane restrictions on the major road.
Originally, the project had a November completion date. In a statement Thursday, the company says it has found more damage to “the existing underground infrastructure.”
The Tillotson Avenue project includes installing a new underground power line and connecting it to an I&M substation. The company says that line needs to lay in an underground duct bank. After opening the road, the company found the section along York Prairie Creek was damaged and needs to be rebuilt.
Lane restrictions are moving north along Tillotson, on the stretch between West Petty Road and West Euclid Avenue. That includes closing the intersection of Tillotson and West Petty through next summer.
I&M addressed driver frustration in its statement.
“Our crews are working as quickly and safely as possible to get things back to normal for our neighbors in Muncie,” said Rob Keisling, external affairs manager. “We continue to work with the city and road repaving will be coordinated when the project is complete.
