MUNCIE, Ind. — Located in the heart of downtown Muncie, Normandy Flower Shop has been a beloved local shop since the 1930s. Founded by Nick and Meta Mentis, the shop has remained a family-owned business for nearly 90 years, offering fresh flowers and plants with a personal touch. Today, Judy Benken, a third-generation florist, carries on that legacy.
Judy took over the flower shop in 1982 after years of working alongside her parents and grandparents in the floral industry. Her father, Paul Benken, owned Paul's Flower Shop in Muncie, and Judy grew up immersed in the business.
“I wanted my kids to grow up around family, so we bought the flower shop and moved back to Muncie,” Benken recalled.
Family remains at the core of the Normandy Flower Shop. Judy’s children are now part of the team, ensuring the shop will continue to serve Muncie for generations to come. While the hours are long, especially during the busy holiday season, Judy and her family find fulfillment in keeping the tradition alive.
“When the holidays roll around, I always miss the floral business. It is always crazy busy, and I guess I love it,” Judy said.
The Normandy Flower Shop prepares for one of its busiest times as the holidays approach. Focusing on family values and professional service, the shop thrives, helping downtown Muncie bloom for nearly a century.
