TUSKEGEE, Al.— At least one person is dead and 16 are hurt after a mass shooting at Tuskegee University, early Sunday morning.
Officials say one suspect who was arrested in connection to the incident is charged with possession of a machine gun. They say the suspect was caught leaving the scene with a converted firearm.
The Macon County coroner identified the victim as 18-year-old La’tavion Johnson. Officials say Johnson was not a student.
They say at least a dozen people were rushed to hospitals with injuries inflicted by gunfire, while others were hurt in other ways.
Classes at Tuskegee University were canceled on Monday, and grief counselors are currently being offered to students.
It is still unclear if the suspect who was arrested has an attorney yet.
