MUNCIE, Ind. — A Muncie Restaurant shares how it all started after four successful years as a Full-Service Business, transforming from a food truck to a community staple. PitMasters BlueBird BBQ & Sons is a full-blown family business.
Owner John Boyd Jr. said, “Actually, at this time, no one works here but my family. I have my mom working, three of my sons work, and then my sister works, so basically, it is all family-owned.”
BlueBirds BBQ is a place where tradition and flavor blend together. Bringing multitudes of generational recipes.
“Well, I actually stole a lot of my cooking philosophy from my father, basically watching him barbecue over the years growing up, but basically, I got my own unique style; I just barbecue,” Boyd Jr said.
Owner John Boyd first made traction when he won the 2014 Rib Fest.
“I had never won anything and that was my first time winning something for a barbecue, so I basically posted a picture one day. I was selling some of the ribs I won at the rib fest, and I got an overwhelming response,” said Boyd.
With the momentum of the win, Boyd and his family transitioned from a food truck to a full-blown restaurant. Boyd Jr’s son, John Boyd IV, expresses his admiration for his father: “It feels good just seeing my dad coming from nothing to something. It started under a tent over on Martin Luther King, then went to this trailer right here now. He's trying to expand as much as he can, so I'm really proud of him.”
