MUNCIE, Ind. — In a college town like Muncie, it is reasonable to assume that there are many parties all around. On Wednesday, however, one of the more interesting parties was hosted in a hardware store.
Gillman Home Center, a local hardware store in Muncie, hosted its Fall into the Seventies Ladies Night. The event included food, drinks, games, raffles, workshops, and even a ‘70s-themed costume contest. Gillman’s made sure that this party was one that guests would remember.
“Ladies' night has been around for quite some time,” said Jessica Williams, event organizer and Gillman’s marketing manager. “It’s kind of an idea to bring community together.”
But this event is about much more than fun. Williams says that this event serves a much more meaningful purpose.
“Some ladies might not feel comfortable coming into the store, or they might not know some of the opportunities that are available to them here,” said Willams. “It's kind of an opportunity for them to come in, meet us, mingle, and get to know our store a little bit.”
Ladies Night also allowed for several local businesses to share their products and services with many attendees at the event. Cameron Grubbs, owner of Ohmugawd Gifts, explained how Ladies Night impacts his business.
“I love events like these because they help get the word out. I can reach people that I wouldn’t normally get to meet at markets and at festivals. This is kinda where people are, and that’s why I love participating in it and being part of the community.”
Williams says that Gillman’s Ladies Night is a yearly event and hopes to spread the word to make it even greater next year.
