MUNCIE, Ind. — Ball State’s Ceramics Guild has returned with its chili bowl fundraiser. The fundraiser normally happens once a year, but it’s the first one since COVID-19. Senior Elijah Wachs has been on the guild for a year and a half and is happy to see the fundraiser’s success.
“I knew it was popular. I knew a lot of people showed up in the past, but I was surprised at the foot traffic, and I still am. I’m just glad to see as many people have shown up as they did,” said Wachs.
With the purchase of a $15 ticket, you can receive a handmade ceramic bowl by the guild and a chili bowl of your choice. The process took nearly three months, but it didn’t make the team crack under pressure.
All proceeds from today went to food charities, like Muncie Mission and Second Harvest Food Bank. Muncie Mission’s vice president of community engagement, Leigh Edwards, came to support.
“I was laughing because I was saying oh my gosh, I can’t choose, and one of the gentlemen in our program said it’ll be okay if you just go buy another ticket, and then you can pick out another bowl, so I am thinking about that,” said Edwards.
This being her first time at the event, she cannot help but be thankful for the Ball State community.
“Just being able to have access to students is really important for us. It’s just a change in perspective that shapes their direction and their choices for volunteering and donating and things like that, so I just thank the Ball State community,” Edwards said.
