O.J. Simpson, the decorated football superstar and Hollywood actor who was acquitted of murder charges, but later found liable in a separate civil trial, has died. He was 76.
Simpson’s attorney confirmed he died Wednesday night in Las Vegas. It was later confirmed Simpson died after battling cancer, according to the Associated Press.
Simpson played 11 NFL seasons, nine of them with the Buffalo Bills, where he became known as “The Juice” on the offensive line known as “The Electric Company.”
At age 61, he served nine years in prison, due to various charges including armed robbery and kidnapping, but was never formally convicted in the murder trial of his then-wife, Nicole Brown Simpson in 1995.
He was released on parole in October 2017.
According to the Associated Press, “Public fascination with Simpson never faded. Many debated if he had been punished in Las Vegas for his acquittal in Los Angeles.”
Simpson was surrounded by family at the time of his passing.
