On Sunday, Ball State (7-6, 1-1) played at the Northwest YMCA and defeated the University of Illinois - Chicago (UIC) by a score of 6-1.
No. 1 doubles pairing junior Nathaniel Webster and grad student Vince Orlando won 6-1. No. 3 doubles pairing grad student Eli Herran and junior Sajin Smith won 6-1, securing the doubles point for the Cardinals.
No. 2 doubles pairing junior Mason Tran and sophomore Jacks Lancaster were up 3-2 when doubles play stopped. At No. 1 singles, Webster collected another point for Ball State with a win of 6-4, 6-3.
At No. 2 singles, Orlando won the first set 6-1 and gave the Cardinals their third point of the match when his opponent retired. At No. 3 singles, Herran won 6-4, 6-3; giving Ball State its fourth point against UIC as well as securing Ball State’s win.
At No. 4 singles, Lancaster split sets and went into a tiebreak third set; he lost the first set 4-6, fought back and won the second 7-5 and lost the tiebreak 3-10. Smith, at No. 5 singles, won 6-1, 6-3, giving Ball State its fifth point.
At No. 6 singles, sophomore Broc Fletcher won, securing Ball State’s sixth point of the day, with a score of 7-5, 6-1.
Ball State will be back in action at Toledo on Friday, Mar. 15 at 1 p.m.
