YORKTOWN, Ind.---A swimmer from Yorktown is heading to the state finals to compete with the best of the best this weekend.
There's a new name in the long lineage of great Yorktown swimmers as Henry Ko heads to the state meet this weekend to compete in two events. His head coach, Tony Santino, puts it all down to his commitment, "Henry is a unique individual, he's really a good kid, good-hearted. He really puts in the time commitment not only in the water," said Santino.
The effort Santino has put in as a coach has meant Ko is extremely confident heading into his sectional races.
"I knew I could do it because I've been practicing. I was happy, but I was also pretty shocked because I matched my same record from last year," said Ko.
While Ko matched his school record at the sectional meet, Santino is doing all he can to ensure it's broken this weekend.
"He has swam fast all season and put in the work. Now we're dropping the yardage, picking up the intensity a little bit. We are working on fine-tuning some of his skills and looking at different things to help make him successful," said Santino.
Henry Ko will swim at the Natatorium in Indianapolis for the state final prelims tomorrow with a chance at etching his name in Tiger history.
