The annular solar eclipse will cut through the southwest United States this Saturday, with a path stretching from Oregon down to southern Texas able to view totality. The rest of the lower 48, excluding the far northeast, will be able to get a glimpse of some percentage of eclipsed sun.
Here in Muncie, we are expecting to see about 40% coverage of the sun.
- Start time - 11:41 A.M.
- Maximum coverage - 1:03 P.M.
- End time - 2:28 P.M.
- Total duration - 2 hours, 47 minutes
Unfortunately, the weather does not seem to be in our favor. A low pressure system is expected to push through the region Friday night, lingering into the day on Saturday. The most widespread rain will be Friday night, however scattered showers will persist throughout Saturday. Cloud cover will be consistent. We could see a few breaks in the clouds, but unfortunately it seems as though it might be too early in the morning, before more cloud cover fills in, just in time for the astronomical event.
We can hope that the break in clouds works in our favor, but some type of 'darkness' will more than likely be noticeable. Even if this partial eclipse is sidelined, a much bigger event is just under six months away! The total solar eclipse will pass through Muncie on April 8, 2024, where totality will be seen for 3 minutes, 48 seconds.
