Today, Ball State competed at the Mid-American Conference (MAC) Championship. The Cardinals Placed 10th of 12 teams, scoring 257 points total. Head Coach Adrian Wheatley saw multiple personal records (PRs) today from his team and was proud of their performance.
“We've raced here before, so it was an opportunity for the ladies to come back and have a little bit of redemption,” Wheatley said. “Everything we do is for the big show at the end of the year here.”
Sophomore Carly Spletzer led the Cardinals by taking 26th place with a PR of 21:34.7. Junior Sarah Mahnensmith followed, taking 37th place with a time of 22:00.6.
Juniors Jessica Velez and Shelby Christman placed 57th and 64th, respectively; Velez achieved a PR of 22:31.8. Sophomore Ella Fullmer took 88th place, with a PR of 23:43.2.
Freshmen Maci Hoskins and Kendyl Thrasher rounded out the day for the Cardinals, finishing in 93rd and 94th.
Coach Wheatley wants the Cardinals to continue with a steady preparation for their next meet.
“We’re here to compete and we always want to continue to do better, so that's what we're going to do,” Wheatley said. “We're going to keep pushing and keep getting this program to where we believe and want it to be.”
To Wheatley, every time the Cardinals can work on their ability is another chance to get better.
“We just take each race as an opportunity for us to get better and I don't think we need to change anything about what we're doing; I think we just have to continue to mirror what we did this weekend.”
The Cardinals will be back in action on Nov. 10 at the NCAA Great Lakes Regional meet in Wisconsin at the Zimmerman Championship course.
