MUNCIE, Ind.--- Ball State Women's Golf gets their first win of the season this year at The Players Club in Yorktown. The Cardinals place first out of 13 teams, and they have two players in the top 10 with Kiah Parrott finishing second behind Dasa Urbankova of University of Chicago. This win for the Cardinals wasn’t just the first win of the season, but it was also the first win for second-year head coach Cameron Andry.
“Winning is tough," Andry said. "I just told the team winning is hard no matter what the field looks like. Something that we didn’t do at all last year and to do it on our home course and get the first win of the season is a really good feeling."
Although this was the first win of the season for BSU, it wasn’t their first match. The Cardinals played in the Boilermaker Classic two weeks ago, and they placed 14th out of 15 teams.
Improvement is key for the Cardinals, though, as they were better this week by 44 strokes. The team looks to take that momentum into next week as they head to Vail, Colorado for the Redsky Golf Week Challenge hosted by Redsky Ranch Golf Club and Golfweek Magazine.
“Right now we’re just enjoying this victory,” Andry said. “We’ll take a day off, we’ll get refocused and get prepared for Colorado."
Senior Kiah Parrott said to “stick to a plan, whatever you do for [Brittanny Kelly Classic in Yorktown], do the same thing for the next tournament no matter whether it’s here, Purdue, or in Colorado."
As the Cardinals continue to soak in the victory from this week, they turn right around next week and try to come back out on top for their second win of the season.
