The Ball State Student Government Association (SGA) began their meeting by re-opening chief administrator nominations.
Sen. Katrina Lemming nominated Payton Male, who was not currently in the senate, and Sen. Skylar Ellis nominated Sen. Taylor Perry. This made the race between Sen. Kyle Wickizer, Payton Male and Sen. Perry.
“I personally think that Senator Perry would be the best fit for this position,” Sen. Cody York said. “As the chair of my caucus, she has done a very great job making sure we are communicating and making sure we have all the information we need.”
Sen. Perry was voted in as Chief Administrator for the coming year.
There were two candidates for Treasurer: Sen. Isaac Ledford and Sen. Jackson Phenis. Sen. Ledford was voted in as Treasurer for the coming year.
“I think that Senator Ledford was so passionate about this role,” Sen. Sarah Owens said. “Additionally, from the National Library of Medicine, work passion does positively affect job performance.”
A budget request was made by Student Services and the At-Large caucus for an egg hunt event, requesting $205. The money would cover the plastic eggs, candy and many other items. The request was approved on a vote of 22-2.
President Tina Nguyen encouraged senators to send any further questions for parking services to her ahead of her upcoming meeting with the head of parking services, as well as any questions about April 4’s One Ball State Day.
Treasurer Mamed Ramazanli informed the senate SGA still has $6,000 available to spend on events.
The unfinished business, first being Student Amendment (SA) 10:22-23, will update the title of Secretary of Diversity to the Secretary of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. The amendment passed on a 24-0 vote.
SA 11:22-23 will broaden the role, lessen the requirements of membership to the Recruitment and Retention Committee, and expand the authority of the president pro tempore, as well as allowing the committee to work with the Secretary of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The amendment passed on a 24-0 vote.
The last piece of unfinished business, SA 12:22-23, will update the name of the Diversity and Multicultural Committee to the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion committee, and passed on a vote of 24-0.
To close the meeting, two new pieces of legislation were introduced. SA 13:22-23 would remove the signature requirement of 50 students when creating a senate resolution.
Senate Resolution (SR) 02:22-23 would place urinal dividers in all men's restrooms where there are not already dividers.
