Jeff Mitchell has been named the new Ball State Director of Athletics, University President Geoffrey Mearns announced in an email on Feb. 3.
"Jeff has extensive experience in the administration of intercollegiate athletics," Mearns said. "He presently serves as the Deputy Director of Athletics at the University of Southern Mississippi."
Mitchell previously served as the Senior Associate Athletics Director at Santa Clara University as well. He served as Interim Director of Athletics for a period at both universities.
"Jeff shares our commitment to the experience and the wellbeing of student athletes," Mearns said. "He understands that it is our responsibility to ensure that training and competing for our University as student athletes will have a positive, transformative impact on their growth and their development."
Mearns also acknowledged the work of Interim Director of Athletics Ken Bothof, who held the position since former Director of Athletics Beth Goetz departed for Iowa in September of 2021.
"Ken’s steady leadership has enabled our sports programs to excel during this transition," he said.
Ball State will hold a formal introductory press conference for Mitchell on Feb. 6 at 1:30 p.m. at the Alumni Center.
