MUNCIE, Ind.-- Ball State University’s Counseling Center and University College joined together at the North Quad Lawn to give students a chance to relieve their stress. The stress relief walk included mindful walking tips, a connection with nature, food and hot chocolate.
The stress walk is meant to promote student wellness in all areas of their life. Exams and due dates are approaching quickly as the semester ends so stress levels are getting high.
Student success coach, Rachel Anderson, was a part of this uplifting event. She shared why her and other coaches decided to help students.
“We work with students who are blocked or feeling stuck or maybe not fulfilled in all the areas of their life,” Anderson said. “Or maybe they’re just surviving but we want them to go from surviving to thriving.”
The Counseling Center and University College are determined to help students whether it’s academically or socially. The associate dean of University College, Brian Gorman, gave a few tips to keep in mind when taking your stress walk.
“Be mindful of the stress they’re feeling. Be mindful if they’re feeling anxious. The thoughts that they're having if they're starting to feel overwhelmed that they’re things you can do to alleviate that,” Gorman said. “Including thinking about your thoughts, taking a nice walk outside, eating healthy and getting some exercise.”
