Ball State field hockey fell to Miami University on Senior Day 7-0 Oct. 28. The loss leaves the Cardinals 7-10 on the season and brings the RedHawks to 11-6.
The first period was a slow start for both teams, but Miami struck first with a goal at the 13:40 mark. That goal proved to be the first of many for the Redhawks.
At halftime, the RedHawks lead the Cardinals 1-0. Then, in the third period, third-year midfielder Claudia Negrete Garcia scored twice for the Redhawks
During the fourth period, first-year forward Fleur Knopert got a green card. The Redhawks scored their fourth, fifth, sixth and seventh goal during the final frame.
"This is the type of team where if you make a small mistake they will capitalize on it," fourth-year forward Nkosi said.
The Cardinals have eight graduating seniors that were recognized on Senior Day. First-year forward Fleur Knopert highlighted the technical skills she learned from the veterans.
“They have a lot of cool tricks but also the basics, like passing and receiving a ball," Knopert said.
Head coach Caitlin Walsh said the seniors are a great group and have "set the standard for the season."
Ball State has one more game for the regular season, facing off against Ohio State Oct. 30 at 1 p.m. before the Mid-American Conference (MAC) tournament; they currently sit as the fourth seed.
