The Ball State Daily News obtained the contracts of all Ball State Athletics coaches and compiled the top five highest earners. All figures are the base salaries, not including retention bonuses, incentives or coaching perks. All multi-year contracts included liquidation causes that detail the amount owed by the coach or Ball State University in the event of a coach's departure. If the coach chooses to leave, there is a certain amount that they owe the university in liquidation depending on how many years are left on the contract, but if the university decided to terminate the coach's contract without probable cause, the university owes that coach a certain amount to fulfill the remainder of the contract.
Tyler Stockton, assistant head coach/defensive coordinator for Ball State Football, is the only non-head coach in the top five earners. Stockton, who spent time with Connecticut and Western Illinois before Ball State, is in his ninth year of coaching in 2022 and his fourth with the Cardinals.
