MUNCIE, Ind.--- Renovations began on Riverview Park this week. The park is located on Bunch Boulevard near the Holt Ditch River.
Phase one of renovations includes landscaping, obtaining draining systems for the splash pad and upgrading parking.
This park is one of four identified by Mayor Dan Ridenour, as cross sections of the city that will be receiving splash pads.
So far, the City of Muncie’s Parks Department completed renovations on Cooley Park and Halteman park. Both have received upgraded playgrounds and a water park.
Carl Malone, superintendent of the Muncie’s Parks department, said he oversees communication between the Parks Projects Director and the citizens of Whitely community.
Malone said each park will receive splash pads and upgraded playgrounds. Any other amenities are upon request by the community.
Cooley Park’s Upgrades:
ADA compliancy upgrades
Splash Pad
Restroom with handicap accessibility
Changing room
New basketball court
Second playground
1.5-mile walking track with lighting
“Riverview will see similar renovations as Cooley Park,” Malone said.
Riverview Park was supposed to start earlier, but because of the flat land, they needed special permits from the State to start building.
Malone was appointed in 2020, and hopes to renovate all four parks by the end of his term in 2024.
“It’s been a great opportunity to see some improvements made in our city, our parks, and our pools,” Malone said.
Riverview Park is set to be completed in 2023. Malone said he hopes to start renovations on Thomas Park in 2024.
