Indiana native and basketball star Caleb Swanigan died at the age of 25, as reported June 21, 2022. The Allen County (Indiana) Coroner’s Office said he died of natural causes.
Swanigan played high school basketball at Homestead High School in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where he won Indiana Mr. Basketball and was a McDonald’s All-American in 2015 and led the Spartans to a State Championship victory. Swanigan played basketball at Purdue University from 2015-17, where he was the Big Ten Player of the Year and First-Team All-Big Ten in the 2016-17 season. only to be drafted in the first round (26th overall) of the 2017 NBA Draft by the Portland Trailblazers.
Swanigan went on to be drafted in the first round (26th overall) of the 2017 NBA Draft by the Portland Trailblazers. He then went on to play for the Sacramento Kings and was out of the NBA after the 2019-20 season.
His alma mater broke the news and offered condolences over Twitter at 10:06 a.m. June 21.
"Devastated," @BoilerBall said in a post. "Our thoughts and prayers to Caleb Swanigan’s family and friends. The world lost a gentle soul last night."
