According to Ball State Athletics, the university has parted ways with men’s basketball head coach James Whitford.
The Cardinals finished the 2022 season with a 14-17 record including a 9-10 mark in the Mid-American Conference. Ball State was eliminated from the MAC Tournament by Ohio University (24-9, 14-6 MAC), losing 67-77 in the quarterfinals.
During his nine-year tenure with Ball State, Whitford went 131-148 overall with a 69-83 MAC record, second all-time in program history for wins and losses.
“James restored respect into the program, made the state of Indiana a recruiting priority and represented the Cardinals with integrity,” Director of Athletics Beth Goetz said via a Ball State Athletics press release. “I am grateful to James for his contributions to our athletics, department and university and wish him the best moving forward.”
Whitford won three MAC West Division titles with Ball State and appeared twice in the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament (CIT).
