MUNCIE, Ind.(NewsLink) – How long is a long time to wait for a win? For Muncie Central Basketball, the answer is 20 months. The Bearcats claimed their first win since March 6, 2020 after knocking off local rival Wapahani last Friday 62-57.
The win also marks the first time the team has started with a 1 - 0 record in Coach Chandler Thompson’s five-year tenure.
“It was my first time winning the first game of the season since I've been hired here,” said Thompson. “So, it was like a monkey off our back that we can start off with a winning record. as I can say, starting off with. So, it was a great atmosphere and a great thing to get that monkey off our back.”
But just because it is the team’s first win, doesn’t mean it has escaped Thompson’s scrutiny.
The biggest problem in Thompson’s mind: “Taking care of the ball because we turned the ball over a lot in the third and fourth quarter. So really just taking care of the ball and understanding what is more important for the possession.”
Next up for the squad is a matchup with a Logansport team that held the Bearcats to just 32 points last season.
“We just need to concentrate on us and our game,” said Thompson.
For the team, that's just one more shot at redemption.
