On Nov. 4, Ball State Student Government Association (SGA) held its weekly meeting over Zoom, where the senators voted on a budget request from the Academic Affairs committee and were presented with a new amendment.
The budget request, presented by senator Davis Odom, was a calculator donation, which would provide the university finance department with calculators that students can rent out.
“If this passes, it can help save students money on required course materials that they may not use once the class is over,” Odom said.
The request passed 34-1, with four abstentions.
The senators were also presented with an amendment from Auston Everman and John Wilcox on updating the duties of the parliamentarian.
As of now, the parliamentarian looks over the validity of the amendments that are turned in, but can’t draft one of their own. If this amendment passes, they will be able to draft their own and present it to the senators to vote on.
The senate will vote on this amendment at a later date.
In addition to presenting this amendment, senator Chiara Biddle announced that the previously mentioned loyalty program that was passed on Oct. 21 will be happening next semester, due to conflicts receiving the stickers and tables necessary for this program.

“We were talking about doing this next semester as well anyways, so it might just have to be pushed to next semester for tabling and getting the stickers passed out,” Biddle said. “But that’s okay. We’re so excited about this.”
SGA is hosting their next meeting on Nov. 11 over Zoom, but is still planning on hosting one more in-person meeting before the end of the semester, depending on changes in COVID-19 guidelines.
