Three slates will run for this year’s Student Government Association election.

SGA held its nomination convention 8 p.m. Tuesday in AJ 175, where the slates Empower, Elevate and United announced the start of their campaigns.

The elections board, which SGA elected last month, oversaw the process, which involved senators nominating executive slates and other senators to run for office.

Each slate has a nominated president, vice president, secretary, treasurer and campaign. Slates are in order of their names being announced at the convention.

After the slate nominations, senators were able to nominate new candidates for senate, with a total of nine new senators nominated.

Last year, current SGA slate Amplify ran unopposed for the first time in eight years.

Voting opens for students Feb. 25 at 8 a.m. Students will receive an email that will link them to a voting site, or they can vote at polling places in the David Letterman Building, Bracken Library and the L.A. Pittenger Student Center, according to elections chair Sara Maier.

The next event for the election is the first of three debates, the Presidential and Vice Presidential Debate, 6 p.m., Feb. 14 in AJ 175.

Jim Hague, adviser for SGA, said the SGA wants get as many students to vote as possible.

“I think we have three slates that have established themselves. So, I think a great opportunity is a diversity of ideas and perspectives that will be presented over the course of the campaign,” Hague said.
