It wasn’t your average day for area Boy Scouts on Friday.
Fifteen scouts from around the Muncie area had the opportunity to shadow local government officials, ranging from the fire and police departments to Mayor Dennis Tyler’s office, as a part of the Scouts in Government Day event.
The day began with scouts drawing names out of a hat to determine who would shadow what city official, then it was right to work.
Scouts were able to see the ins-and-outs of what it takes to run a city government. They even had an opportunity to earn merit badges for their efforts, including those in emergency preparedness and citizenship in the community.
“It’s great to have the scouts here at city hall, and to allow them to see what we do as officials,” said Mayor Dennis Tyler.
“It’s always a pleasure to have them here and to hear about their hopes and dreams and what they want to be.”
After the busy morning, the scouts had a pizza lunch at Mayor Tyler’s office, allowing them to ask questions and to share their experiences with their fellow scouts.
