Ball State softball will head back to Muncie with a 3-7 record after losing its last game of the Wildcat Invitational in Tuscon, Arizona.
The Cardinals (3-7) trailed the Eagles (6-2) 2-0 after four and loaded the bases in the fifth. After senior Rachel Houck drew a bases-loaded walk to close the gap to one, freshman Janae Hogg pinch-hit for freshman Tara Morey.
Hogg, who's now second on the team with a .357 batting average, hit an RBI single up the middle to tie the game.
Freshman Kennedy Wynn, who's 9-19 on the season, followed Hogg's single with a 2-RBI single of her own to give Ball State the 4-2 lead.
Boston College, though, scored in the bottom of the fifth, and in the top of the sixth they put runners on second and third against freshman Darcie Huber with one out. Huber was replaced by junior Carolyn Wilmes, who allowed both inherited runners to score after a sacrifice fly and a two-run home run.
Though the Cardinals led when Huber was pulled, both Eagles runners eventually scored, so the runs were credited to Huber, as was the loss.
In total, Huber allowed five runs, all earned, on 10 hits in 5.1 innings. It was her first loss of the season after being the pitcher of record for all three of the Cardinals' wins.
Ball State is back in action next weekend at the Citrus Classic I in Orlando, Florida. Its first game against Oakland is at 11 a.m. Friday.
