Ball State bounced back after last week’s defeat with a 6-1 win over Evansville at Northwest YMCA Saturday.
The Cardinals got the doubles point for the first time since their Feb. 4 win against Illinois State. Audrey Berger and Julia Sbircea jumpstarted the match with a 6-2 win against Purple Aces’ pair Andjela Brgujan & Daria Pentsova.
It was a similar story on the court beside them, as Toni Ormond and Isabelle Dohanics had little trouble beating Chieko Yamada & Theodora Soldatou 6-2.
Ball State’s Carmen Blanco and Peyton Gollhofer were involved in a tight affair on court 3. Their match was the last to finish, but it was good news in the end, as they broke in the last game to win 6-4 over Nicoli Pereira & Diana Tkachinko.
In singles play, Gollhofer came out with a win after losing her last two matches. She had to go to the third set to finish off Yamada 7-5, 3-6, 10-4. Blanco also went to the third set but didn't have enough to beat Tkachinko, who won 4-6, 6-0, 7-6 (8).
Ormond topped Pereira in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. Rebecca Herrington also cruised to a win over Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga, 6-1, 6-3. Dohanics beat Pentsova 7-5, 6-4 and Rosa Calderon beat Soldatou 6-3, 6-3.
The Cardinals next match is at 2 p.m. Sunday against IUPUI. Weather permitting, the match may be held on campus at Cardinal Creek Tennis Center. If not, the match will be held at Northwest YMCA.
