Ball State women’s swimming and diving completed day one of the Miami Invitational.
The days are broken up into 10 sessions, having the teams swim twice in one day. On the final day, Dec. 3, the teams will swim at 10 a.m., 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
The Dec. 1 meets consisted of men and women’s 200 free relay, 200 prelim, 200 individual medley, 50 free prelims and 400-medley relay.
Freshman Sophia Bader, sophomore Lauren Elston, sophomore Elizabeth Madison and senior Courtney Mudd placed fifth in the first 200 relay with a time of 1:36:54.

Madison also swam in the 500 free along with freshman Elizabeth Graham, freshman Cassidy Blackwin and junior Morgan Brebberman. Madison finished with a time of 5:13:08, placing second in her heat and 20th overall. Graham finished with 5:16:36 (33rd overall), Blackwin finished 5:13:28 (36th overall) and Brebberman finished with 5:20:40 (40th overall).
In the 200 individual medley, Bader finished with a time of 2:10:69, finishing seventh in her heat. Senior Kim Scott also swam with a time of 2:10:68, finishing third in her heat. Mudd finished with 2:11:19, placing her 34th overall. Sophomore Maryn Meldrum finished with 2:21:03 (41st overall).
The next event was the 50 free, in which seven Ball State members competed in. In the second heat, senior Jessica Extine finished first with a time of 23.72. Extine finished tenth place overall for the 50 free. In the fourth round of the 50 free, freshmen Peighton Gilbert and Anne Vormohr swam in a swim off, finishing with the time of 24.09.
In the 400-medley relay, Vormohr, junior Amanda Kedzierski, Bader and Extine finished with a time of 3:49:08.
At the end of the events Dec. 1, Ball State had 88 points, landing them in seventh place out of 11.
The team will be back in the pool at 10 a.m. Dec. 2.
